The Institute for Technology and Society (ITS) is launching the first research cycle of the Content Moderation and Digital Constitutionalism Laboratory (ModeraLab). We are inviting applications from undergraduate and postgraduate students across Brazil.

ModeraLab aims to explore topics at the intersection of content moderation, digital constitutionalism, and digital platform governance. These topics include but are not limited to 1) International human rights law; 2) Technical and legal aspects of content moderation on digital platforms; 3) Regulatory and economic considerations; 4) Impacts on democracy in the digital age; and 5) Technological innovation.

In its inaugural research cycle, ModeraLab will analyze the initial decisions made by Facebook’s Oversight Board. The goal is to understand how these decisions are influencing the governance and content moderation practices on Facebook and Instagram.
