Yearly, the Centre for Communication Governance (National Law University Delhi), the Hans Bredow Institute, the University of Hamburg, and the Institute for Technology & Society of Rio hold a Summer School of Law and Technology.
The initiative also receives support from the UNESCO Chair on Freedom of Communication at the University of Hamburg and the Global Network of Internet and Society Research Centers.
This year the school has as its key theme “Governing Data and Information on the Internet: A Human Rights Perspective”.
The Summer School gathers a diversified group of professors, researchers, and students for an intensive week of speeches, discussions, and interactive class activities. It also offers the unique opportunity of learning with leading specialists on emerging legislative issues regarding Law and Technology.
Previous editions of the school were dedicated to themes such as Law, Internet and Democracy; The fight against Hate Speech and the role played by platforms; and Cybersecurity. Students from Germany, India, and Israel attended the school.
Activities include many classes, speeches, debates, and work as a group. The students must read the reference material of the classes, do scholarly work for class presentations, participate in group activities, and also contribute to debates.
Your learning will be scored based on a final role-playing exercise that simulates a UNESCO panel. The faculty of the course is composed of international researchers with a focus on Law and Technology.
