We are pleased to present Legal Transformations in the Context of Artificial Intelligence, an essential read for those aiming to grasp the complex challenges and opportunities that technology poses in the digital era.

Featuring 18 articles authored by students from the Digital Law Graduate Program at ITS Rio, in partnership with CEPED and UERJ, this book offers a broad and in-depth analysis of contemporary legal issues related to artificial intelligence.

The first section explores the protection of personal rights in the digital space, tackling subjects such as the legal hurdles of audio deepfakes, interpreting virtual behavior as personal data, and the intricate matter of digitally recreating deceased public figures.

The second section addresses civil liability on the internet, focusing on issues like virtual violence against women and the liability of internet application providers.

The third section examines the intersection between artificial intelligence and rights protection. The articles cover topics from the intellectual property rights of AI commands to complex algorithmic discrimination and transparency issues. This section notably advocates for ethical and responsible AI governance on a global scale.

The final section discusses innovation and technology, ranging from data justice in the global south to the effects of the EU Directive 2022/2380 on innovation. It also highlights the challenges and opportunities technology introduces to the legal field, including ESG concerns regarding personal data, an in-depth look at electronic contracts, and the rise of smart contracts.
