Big Data and data protection are also present in the Global South. In this case, even if both the technologies and the stakeholders involved are global and present similarities, some specificities must be considered. Countries in the Global South are, in their majority, consumers and not producers of the technology behind Big Data, which results in these technologies not being adequate enough for the specific needs of the region. This report analyses the challenges of Big Data in the Global South with a focus on the Brazilian phase.
The document was presented at “Big Data in the Global South International Workshop”, which took place at ITS Rio in November 2015.
