This article highlights current security challenges relating to 5G deployment and explores the opportunities of appropriate and applicable governance mechanisms. Through the analysis of current security concerns around supply chain provision of the technology via Huawei, the article outlines the need for comprehensive governance which considers both technical and geopolitical security matters.

This research explores the different options for governance for 5G security and argues that a multistakeholder approach offers the most productive opportunity for effective oversight and decision-making. Through a case study on CGI.br and internet governance, this research highlights how multistakeholder governance approaches can be effective in practice.
