How to integrate technology, climate, and the knowledge of traditional peoples?
To answer this question, ITS presents the report “The Global Mutirão: scaling climate action from the ground up”. The document brings together the main contributions of the event held in Belém (PA) on May 29, 2025, which highlighted the fundamental role of traditional peoples and communities in technology and climate. The meeting brought together academics, public managers, policymakers, specialists, representatives of the third sector, startups, and traditional leaders to debate innovative and inclusive solutions in the Amazonian and national contexts. The event was organized by ITS Rio, with institutional support from the Instituto Clima e Sociedade (iCS) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The report presents concrete opportunities for the use of emerging technologies applied to environmental protection, the strengthening of traditional communities, and sustainable development. Cases highlighted during the event show how strategic partnerships and technological innovations can promote the conservation of the Amazon, foster the green economy, and support effective public policies.
More than technological solutions, the report also brings reflections on the social, environmental, and political challenges involved in implementing these innovations. Issues related to traditional knowledge and the need for social engagement were widely debated by participants from different sectors. The document points out the crucial role that Brazil can play in the global climate agenda, integrating technology, innovation, and social justice.
With a focus on COP 30 and on strengthening national and international cooperation, the report proposes pathways to consolidate a climate technology agenda that is inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with the challenges of the Amazon region. This includes building collaborative networks, fostering innovative startups, and creating public policies that support technological development with a positive socio-environmental impact.
