National strategies for artificial intelligence: an international experience

This is a summary by ITS Rio of 20 national strategies that countries are developing for implementing artificial intelligence in their applications. Another 10 countries have already begun the formulation process of their national strategies, with public consultations or the creation of specialized committees that will manage the process. However, the initiatives of these 10 countries are not present in this document.

We analyzed most of the strategic plans launched till this moment, with a main focus on the guiding ethical principles and the following key pillars: industry, research, and the future of the workforce. The goal of this analysis is to verify the main legislative tendencies that can inspire the creation of a Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

In this document it is possible to find references and a summary of the ethical principles as well as of the industry, research, and future of the workforce key pillars.

The analyzed plans are from the following countries and international bodies: Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, European Commission, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
