What is the safest route to escape fake news and it´s perverse effects? Media literacy. This conclusion is not revolutionary. Education and responsible technology use is almost always the route by which we arrive at a better place. This, however, is an arduous road that requires constant clarification and collective efforts to refute fictitious narratives and promote access to secure alternative sources of information. In this essay, published in Revista Interesse Nacional (year 10, number 38 – august to october 2017), Sérgio Branco traces a panorama of the debate about fake news and the Internet.
